Guillermo Higa, MD, FACS, attended Universidad Nacional de Cordoba, Argentina, and received his medical degree in 2000. Then, he served his internship at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital and his general surgery residency at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. Furthermore, he conducted his medical research fellowship in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida (2003), where he also completed an additional fellowship in minimally invasive bariatric surgery in 2010. In addition, Dr. Higa received board certification in general surgery from the American Board of general Surgery. A fellow of the American College of Surgeon, he remains an active member of the American College of Surgeons, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal & Endoscopic Surgeons, and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. He feels that his success is attributable primarily to personalized patient care. Dr. Higa dedicates his spare time to his family, as well as sports, such as tennis, golf, and soccer. He remains passionate about playing the Spanish guitar and vacationing in Barcelona, Spain.
